The Mathematics and Computer Science Department is proud to announce that Darren Davis and Justin Webster are the 2007 Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship winners, up to 300 awarded nationwide.
The Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship was established by Congress in 1986 to honor Senator Barry M. Goldwater, who served his country for 56 years as a soldier and statesman, including 30 years of service in the U.S. Senate.
The scholarships are awarded on the basis of merit to students, to be known as Barry M. Goldwater Scholars, who have outstanding potential and intend to pursue careers in mathematics, the natural sciences, or engineering. All candidates for scholarships are nominated by their college or university. University of San Diego may nominate up to four current sophomores or juniors. The number of scholarships to be awarded per state depends on the number and qualifications of the nominees. Darren Davis was awarded as a resident of California while Justin Webster as a resident of Oregon. Each scholarship covers eligible expenses for undergraduate tuition, fees, books, and room and board, up to a maximum of $7,500 annually. The scholarships awarded in the spring 2007, become available for use during the 2007-2008 academic year. Congratulations to our outstanding scholars Darren and Justin for their Goldwater achievement!
